Rail season ticket break-even
Compare a quoted season ticket with individual return tickets over the same validity period and journey.
Your inputs
Start with the example values, then replace them with your own. For tables, keep the vertical bar separators and use a dot for decimals.
Estimates use the amounts and rates you enter. They are not financial, tax or legal advice. Check the current contract and local rules before acting.
Tool inputs are processed in your browser and are not submitted by this tool. Existing site analytics and advertising services have their own privacy terms.

How it works
Individual cost = travel days × daily return fare. First strictly cheaper season-ticket day = floor(season price/daily fare)+1. Route validity, peak restrictions, refunds and concessions must be checked with the operator.
Worked example
These sample results use the original example inputs in the form. They do not change when you edit your inputs; your own result appears in the workspace.
- Individual ticket cost: 288
- Saving with season ticket: 48
- First strictly cheaper day: 14 days
Read the result carefully
Results depend on the values and assumptions shown above. Change one input at a time to see its effect. A blank or unavailable result means the data does not support a calculation; it is not zero.
